Grubbing & Stump Removal · RGV

Pulled by the root, not just cut.

Cutting brush at the surface leaves the root system alive. Grubbing takes the roots and stumps out too — so mesquite and huisache don't sucker back through your pad.

What it is

Cutting alone isn't enough

Grubbing is the removal of root systems and stumps, not just what's standing above ground. Land clearing takes down the canopy; grubbing takes out what's underneath — so it doesn't come back.

Skip grubbing and cut mesquite or huisache at the surface, and within a season you'll see new stems pushing up from the same root crown — sometimes right through a driveway, a compacted pad, or a fence line you just put in. Grubbing is what actually stops that, and it's the difference between clearing land and clearing it for good.

Why it matters

Mesquite & huisache don't quit at the surface.

Two species cause most of the regrowth problems we see on Valley properties — and both need the root system dealt with, not just the canopy on top of it.

Mesquite
honey mesquite
A single taproot can run deep — cut it at the surface and the root crown just pushes up new stems.
Huisache
sweet acacia
Spreads by root sprouts as much as by seed — surface-cutting it can multiply the stems instead of removing them.
How we grub

Right equipment, sized to the stand

01

Assess the stand

We walk the property and identify what actually needs grubbing versus what can be surface-cleared.

02

Root rake or excavate

Stumps and root balls pulled with a root rake or excavator, sized to the density and species.

03

Debris, your way

Piled, hauled off, or windrowed on-site — whatever fits your plan for the ground.

Who needs grubbing

Anyone about to build on the ground — a pad, a driveway, a foundation — because live roots under compacted fill cause problems later. And ranchers reclaiming pasture who are tired of the same mesquite motts coming back every year.

Don't let it grow back.
